State Superintendent Tom Torlakson Launches Summer Matters 2013 Campaign
State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Torlakson arrived in Fresno last month to launch “Summer Matter” – a statewide campaign to expand access to high quality summer learning opportunities for California students. He was joined by Superintendent Powell, Deputy Superintendent Jim Yovino, Central Unified Superintendent Mike Berg, and other local civic leaders, school trustees, students and parents. A very spirited rally at Central’s Glacier Point Middle School underscored the “important role that summer learning plays in students’ educational success,” according to Central’s Superintendent Mike Berg.
“Fresno is proud of our success in innovating summer learning from the ground up through engaging, hands-on learning activities like STEM, literacy, fitness and nutrition – all of which is made possible through unique public-private-nonprofit collaborations,” said Larry Powell, Fresno County Schools Superintendent.
