Clovis North's Mock Trial Team Finishes Third in State Competition
After winning the Fresno County 2011 competition, Clovis North High School’s Mock Trial team went on to finish third in the annual state competition held in Riverside, CA, March 25-27. This is their third year of competition. Clovis North team members, Nicole Meier and Meera Verma, also earned two top individual awards for best defense attorney and best defense expert witness, respectively.
People v. Woodson is a hypothetical case where Jesse Woodson was charged with assault with a deadly weapon and a violation of the “Anti-Bullying and Cyber-bullying of Students Act (ABC’S Act).” Before actual presiding judges and attorney scorers, 32 teams competed in hard-fought legal battles to determine which side, defense or prosecution, would reign.
Team teacher-coach, Linda Linder, and assistant teacher-coach, Bryan Frazier, spent countless hours guiding their team. Attorney coaches, Kevin Hansen and Mark Broughton, worked tirelessly to help the team achieve the best showing in State Mock Trial competition in the 29 years Fresno County has held the competition.
