Martin Luther King Speech Contest

Time

Students in grades 4-12 are encouraged to write and deliver an original speech, addressing the theme of the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. contests. Speeches will be presented at FCOE on January 27, 2011, in front of a panel of judges who will select the winning speech from each grade category (4-6; 7-8; 9-12).

Time

All school districts are encouraged to have their students, grades K-12, participate in the celebration of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day by using a visual medium to express Dr. King's ideas. The integration of art and history not only helps students apply and retain their knowledge of history but also offers students with different learning styles an opportunity to succeed.

Young Authors' Faire

Time

The Young Authors' Faire showcases original student writing in Fresno County. Each participating elementary school may submit 10 books written and illustrated by students in grades K-6. These books will be on display at the Young Authors' Reception on May 12, 2011.

These books will be on display at the Young Authors' Reception on May 12, 2011. Middle School/Junior High students are invited to submit group writing projects for display at the Reception.

Spell-Off Participants Eager for Competition

The annual Fresno County Spell-Off competition will be held March 31, 2011 at 9:00 a.m. Tentative plans are to hold the Spell-Off in Rooms 270, 274 and 201 at the Fresno Councty Office of Education. The participants in the County Spell-Off are the qualifying finalists of schools who held district-wide spelling bee competitions. The top two winners in each division (elementary and junior high) will represent Fresno County in the California State Spelling Championships.
