Kwanzaa

Ujima students from across Fresno County convened for their year-end meeting, part of a program developed by the Office of the Fresno County Superintendent of Schools to positively impact the experiences of black students. In this session, they focused on learning about Kwanzaa, a holiday celebrating black heritage and culture, with Dr. Angie Barfield emphasizing the importance of instilling its values, such as self-determination and collective responsibility, in students to foster academic and personal growth. Students were introduced to the seven principles of Kwanzaa, symbolized by lighting candles each night, aiming to bring in a new year with a renewed sense of purpose and excellence.
