Any Given Child Fresno celebrates one year in December

The Ensuring the Arts for Any Given Child initiative in Fresno celebrated one year of implementation on Dec. 4 at Mario G. Olmos Elementary School. The event included an inaugural Advisory Board meeting with initiative partners Mayor Ashley Swearengin, Fresno Unified School District Superintendent Michael Hanson and Fresno County Superintendent of Schools Jim Yovino.

Olmos Elementary is one of the Any Given Child pilot schools. Students performed in the school’s multipurpose room, followed by a presentation of first-year results by the leadership team, including:
• Any Given Child chose 11 pilot schools and has developed strategic plans to integrate arts into each site
• The Link Up concert brought 5,700 4th graders to the William Saroyan Theatre for a concert in partnership with Carnegie Hall and the Fresno Philharmonic in 2014
• Art of the Word will bring 4,600 3rd graders to the Fresno Art Museum in 2015 in partnership with the Fresno County Office of Education
• All transitional kindergarten teachers were given arts integration training in 2014 and all kindergarten teachers will be trained in 2015
• FCOE received a $1.4 million grant to train 3rd through 6th grade teachers at 10 Any Given Child pilot schools
