Cable honored as September Employee of the Month

It is with pleasure that FCOE honored Tiffany Cable, Special Day Class Teacher at Sutherland Center, as the September 2016 Employee of the Month.

Tiffany not only deeply cares for the students she serves, but she also takes seriously her role as a professional educator in the classroom. She has been a teacher at Sutherland for nine years.

“I found my passion,” said Tiffany of her job. “I’m grateful for anytime I can work helping people figure out how to care for others with special needs with their whole heart.”

Her willingness to contribute to curriculum development for Fresno County or try creative assessment strategies keeps her on the cutting edge of her profession.

“Many times Tiffany has come into my office to discuss the needs of one of her students or simply brainstorm creative, more efficient methods for meeting her students’ needs,” said Dave Tenney, Program Manager of the Sutherland Center.

Tiffany’s thematic lesson planning develops the love of learning in her students, many of whom don’t speak and are confined to wheelchairs. These challenges only fuel her desire to present lessons that are specially designed to be fully accessible. Her students are shown constant love and support. The concept of family is modeled as the teacher and paraeducators work together as a team to meet their needs.

“When I first started as the program manager, Tiffany’s classroom was the first room I saw with parents inside helping,” said Tenney. “She understands the importance of working with families for the benefit of her students. The Sutherland Center is a better place because of the work Tiffany does.”

Tiffany is also very proud of her work as a coach and reader in FCOE’s Teacher Induction program. In addition to this honor, Tiffany is starting her first semester as an adjunct professor at Fresno Pacific University’s credential program.

“Kids see us for who we are,” said Tiffany. “There’s no hiding who you are and that’s refreshing for me.”
