Fresno County student is top speller in state
Ananya Vinay, a 4th grader at Fugman Elementary School in the Clovis Unified School District, won first place at the California State Spelling Bee on Saturday, April 18 in Stockton. She competed for 18 rounds and finished with the winning word “stroganoff.”
Vinay was also the first-place winner in the elementary division at the 21st Annual Fresno County Spell-Off competition in March, coordinated by the Fresno County Office of Education. Seventy-eight students from 21 school districts competed in the county event.
