June Superintendent’s Superstar shines

Donovan Rivas, age 10, attends McKinley Elementary School in the Central Unified School District. Donovan has a rare connective tissue disease, Shprintzen-Goldberg syndrome. There are only 50 people in the world who have been genetically confirmed to have this syndrome.

Although Donovan has serious medical issues related to his diagnosis, he is outgoing, kind and upbeat. “He’s wise beyond his years,” said his mother, Kerry Rivas. Donovan hopes to be an inspiration to others to never quit and to look at their hardships in a different light.
