Lomeli honored as August Employee of the Month

It is with pleasure that FCOE honored Albert Lomeli, Special Day Class Teacher of the Emotionally Disturbed, as the August 2016 Employee of the Month.

Al, a special education teacher for the Emotionally Disturbed program at Selma High School, helps students achieve a tremendous amount of growth. He is able to accomplish this by collaborating with parents, the Fresno County Office of Education, district staff and outside specialists.

In Al’s ED classroom at Selma, he has nine students from freshman to seniors. He works to mainstream his students into general education classrooms depending upon their academic and social behaviors.

“I treat my students like everyone else,” said Al, who has been with FCOE since 2009. “I tell my kids they may have special needs, but that can’t keep them from moving ahead in life.”

Al is viewed by his colleagues as dependable, efficient and caring with a tremendous attention to detail. He has provided outstanding mentor teacher support to the Peer Assisted Coaching program. Al also teaches at the Alice M. Worsley School at the Juvenile Justice Campus during the summer and spring break.

“A lot of kids have baggage,” said Al. “They look for support and people who care about them. I advocate for them, but I also tell them they must be their own advocate.”
