September Superintendent’s Superstar shines

Mark Topoozian is a senior at Bullard High School with a keen interest in education, student government, baseball and helping those in need. He is ranked No. 1 in his class out of 700 students and is currently Student Body President.

In addition to his dedication to student government, Mark started his own community service club at school called The Drive Club. In his freshman year, he directed and organized a toy drive to benefit Valley Children’s Hospital, later becoming a volunteer at the hospital. The summer of his junior year, he organized a farmers market every Saturday, supervising a group of 10 students to sell fruits and vegetables to help less fortunate students buy sports equipment. They’ve raised $4,000 each summer since then.

He has been in charge of Kids Day for his school and under his direction they broke the previous record of money collected. He also started and organized a Food Recovery Program where all unwanted and wrapped food is taken to Fresno Metro Ministry. The program currently feeds 75 to 200 residents daily.

This past summer, Mark and his family traveled to Armenia where they were involved in philanthropic projects and services to poor villages. He also met with Fresno City Councilmember Steve Brandau to discuss ways to combat homelessness in the community.

Mark is a black belt in karate and has played baseball since he was 3 years old. This season will be his third on Bullard’s varsity team. He hopes to attend Stanford and play baseball for the university.
