Student entries honoring Dr. King displayed at special reception
Proud students, their families and teachers filled the Veteran’s Memorial Auditorium in Clovis on Feb. 11 for the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Art Reception and Program. The special event was held in honor of both the 30th anniversary of the Fresno Unity Committee and the 50th anniversary of Dr. King’s “I Have a Dream” speech.
The program, sponsored in part by HMC Architects and the Fresno County Office of Education, showcased winning entries from FCOE’s Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. speech, art and essay contests, which were held in January.
“This competition offers our Fresno County students two important opportunities: First, to honor a great leader in our nation’s effort to promote civil justice and peace; and second, to practice real-world skills of effective communication, whether through one’s words or artistic vision,” said Pamela McGee, FCOE Director of English Language Arts, Literacy and History/Social Education
