Students win big at International Science & Engineering Fair

The Fresno County Regional Science Fair sent 60 projects to the California State Science Fair on May 19, resulting in 10 out of 14 high school projects winning a category award. Alex Tacescu of Clovis North High School and Beatrice Choi of University High School both placed first in their categories. Seven junior high projects also won category awards.

Four of the county projects were sent to the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair in May. Tacescu won the IEEE $10,000 scholarship to the school of his choice with a robotics project. Choi won 2nd place in chemistry.

Titus Patton of Sanger High School competed and will continue to work with the Chaffee Zoo and the Fresno State microbiology department on his break-through hypothesis that sting ray mucus can be used as an antimicrobial agent.
