Superintendent Powell Begins Second Term

Promising to ‘support and defend the constitutions of the United States and the State of California,’ more than 250 guests watched as Superintendent Powell took the oath of office, administered by his mother, Mary Powell, on January 5, 2011. Moments earlier, The Honorable James M. Petrucelli, Fresno County Superior Court Judge, administered the oath of office to re-elected trustees Delbert Cederquist and Keith Eubanks. Cederquist has served on the Fresno County Board of Education since 1994 and Eubanks since 2002.
As for Larry L. Powell, the second term also represents his 41st year in education. In his acceptance remarks, he humbly acknowledged the synergism that comes from the extraordinary support of family, friends and professional colleagues. “No one ever accomplishes much by themselves,” he told the crowd of spectators. “Great things happen when people collaborate and work together for common goals.”
He thanked his board members, superintendents, administrators, teachers and staff.
“Until every student is successful, our work is not done.”
The guests, which included dignitaries, family, friends and FCOE staff, applauded wholeheartedly.
