Superintendent’s Model Arts Award recognizes Fresno County schools

The Fresno County Office of Education hosted the 5th Annual Superintendent’s Rally for the Arts on March 24 at the Radisson in downtown Fresno. During the rally, the Superintendent’s Model Arts Award was presented to 20 Fresno County schools for their high-quality arts education programs.

"Academics are important, but the arts are essential," said Jim Yovino, Fresno County Superintendent of Schools.

The SMART award is a unique recognition program available to all public schools in Fresno County. Award winners are chosen from an extensive application process. Participating schools received a Bronze, Silver or Gold SMART award based on their arts education programs.

Research shows that a high-quality education in the visual and performing arts raises test scores, lowers the dropout rate, improves attendance and teaches skills vital to success in college and career.
