June 2023 Superintendent’s Superstars
Brayan Cortes and Richard Vasquez, Seniors, Mendota High School, brought to life their Mendota High School motto of “Building Scholars, Leaders and Champions at the Hidden Gem of Mendota California.”
Together as friends and colleagues, they achieved the following accolades:
- Associate degrees in agriculture science technology through West Hills College
- Completed the Wonderful College Academy
- Completed the Career Technical Education Business Pathway
- 1st place in Career Skills Business Challenge for their Elevator Pitch
- Baseball Valley Championship
- Established their own businesses
- Will pursue bachelor’s degrees at Fresno State as incoming juniors
Significant sacrifices took place for their accolades to reach fruition, beginning right after graduating from 8th grade. For the past four years, these entrepreneur scholars have been studying year-round with no summer breaks. If they did take a short break, they utilized it to work in agriculture or grow their businesses in efforts to establish financial independence.
Despite an overwhelming workload, Brayan and Richard always managed to make the most of their situation, navigating with grace and smiles. Their incredible work ethic will yield lifelong dividends that will overcome any hurdles.
Brayan and Richard are true scholars, leaders and champions and now officially superstars!
