Schools honored for progress in positive student behavior
The Fresno County Office of Education’s Special Education Local Plan Area (SELPA) recognized 128 area schools in an award ceremony on Thursday, May 21 at the Golden Palace event center. The ceremony celebrated their progress in improving and maintaining a positive school-wide culture and reducing suspensions at each of their sites. Schools reaching targeted goals received a bronze, silver or gold banner to recognize their success.
The Fresno County SELPA has provided training in the nationally recognized framework, Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS), to 159 schools over the past five years. PBIS helps schools establish clear behavioral and social expectations in a system that supports all students, acknowledges positive behavior, promotes academic learning and reduces the number of discipline referrals and suspensions on a campus.
