Superintendent’s Superstar September: Helping others is a ‘blessing’
Alana Ward, senior at Central East High School, is our September Superintendent’s Superstar. She is a hardworking student who believes that kindness, respect and equity for all creates a better world. She exceeds not only in the classroom, but has also given back to her community through more than 1,000 volunteer hours since she was in elementary school. Alana holds a 4.18 GPA and is active around campus all year long. She is a role model to her peers and says it’s a blessing to help others who may be less fortunate.
Alana is a Girl Scout and Boy Scout. She is ambitiously working towards becoming an Eagle Scout in the Boy Scouts of America, as well as achieving the Gold Award with the Girls Scouts of America. In addition to the Scouts, Alana has volunteered at numerous local non-profit organizations, including Hinds Hospice, Angel Babies and as a Bell Ringer for the Salvation Army during the holiday season.
For the last two years, she has participated and won the annual poetry slam contest at Central East High School. This allowed her to express the art of poetry through spoken words that are lively and creative. Alana continues her extracurricular activity by participating in the Central East Mock Trial. Her goal is to become a Civil Rights attorney.
