Acosta honored as April Employee of the Month
It is with pleasure that the Office of the Fresno County Superintendent of Schools honors Maria Acosta, Para-educator II in the Special Education department, as the April 2018 Employee of the Month.
Acosta has been serving students with moderate to severe disabilities with the Office of the Fresno County Superintendent of Schools for 25 years. She works closely with her colleagues and is a true team player. Acosta is punctual and rarely misses work.
“I enjoy my job and working with this population of students,” said Acosta, who has worked in the FCSS Adult Transition Program at the Fresno Pacific College site since 1999.
In the course of her career, she has shared her kindness and readiness to assist with students of all ages throughout various programs. She works exceptionally well with one-on-one instruction, small group instruction and has established a relationship of respect in whole group lessons. Acosta has the ability to modify, adapt and provide direct instruction in the form that students understand and learn.
Through her involvement in the Senior Center social component, she provides volunteer opportunities to students and community service to the elderly. Acosta always takes time out of her day to help others, including feeding the homeless on the weekends.
“I like knowing I can help our students in some way and I try to make them happy any way I can,” she said. “I help our students out, but I get a lot from them.”
