Crystal Ramirez was born in the United States and was on her own by 13 when she was abandoned in Mexico by her mom. She survived on the streets two years without speaking Spanish and alone until someone helped her get to the border. She entered the foster care system at age 15 as a single, teen mom. At 18, she aged out of foster care and became homeless. Crystal is now 22.
Through difficult circumstances, Crystal graduated from high school and is now about to finish her Certified Nursing Assistant program at Clovis Adult School. She will attend Fresno City College this fall as a Next Up student.
Crystal is a dedicated California Youth Connection member and has been involved in advocating for years. She plans to be become an assemblywoman to work towards making change in the foster care system. She was featured in the Mayor’s Homeless Taskforce prevention video and is a large part of the leadership for the CYC homeless prevention survey to be conducted over the next three years.
