Backpacks distributed to local homeless students in need
It’s next to impossible for homeless students to succeed in school, especially without intervention and much-needed school supplies. Because of a generous donation from Feed the Children, a national organization, backpacks with supplies were delivered to 1,600 students in need in Fresno and Merced counties through the Fresno County Office of Education’s Foster and Homeless Youth Education Services program. The backpacks were filled with a variety of items, including school supplies, essentials such as toothpaste, deodorant, body wash, snacks and children’s books.
The backpacks were first delivered to the Fresno Unified School District Warehouse and then transferred to FCOE for distribution. Pam Hancock, FCOE School Psychologist and Homeless and Foster Youth School Education Services Coordinator, believes education is key to breaking the cycle of poverty in our Valley. Donations like this are one way to help students in need.
