Clovis North wins Fresno County Mock Trial Competition
Clovis North High School took first place in the 35th annual Fresno County Mock Trial Competition, hosted by the Office of the Fresno County Superintendent of Schools. The competition completed last Thursday, Feb. 9, with the final round held in the Ceremonial Courtroom at the United States District Court in the Robert E. Coyle Federal Courthouse. Clovis North High School defeated Clovis West High School in the finals of the competition.
Clovis North High School’s Mock Trial Team, along with their courtroom artists and journalists, will participate in the California Sate Mock Trial Finals against 33 other teams in March in Riverside. Buchanan High School took third place and University High School took fourth place in the Fresno County competition.
More than 300 students from 14 teams competed in the competition this year. Superior Court Judge Jon Conklin facilitated the recruitment of judges from both Superior and Federal courts to preside in more than 33 courtrooms during the four preliminary rounds of competition leading up to the semi-final and final rounds. More than 55 scoring attorneys donated their time to score and give feedback to students. The Central California Trial Lawyers Association and Fresno County Bar Association donated more than $1,000 to the event.
