February Superintendent’s Superstars shine

Anmol Raien, Bailey Chavez and Tanner Hedrick were honored as the February Superintendent’s Superstars at the monthly Fresno County Board of Education meeting.

Chavez, a junior, and Hedrick, a senior, are students at Buchanan High School. Raien, a junior, is a student at Clovis North High School. All students are school coordinators for Valley Children’s Hospital’s Kids Day.

Both Chavez and Hedrick are leadership students and coordinators responsible for the logistics of volunteers for Kids Day on Tuesday, March 8. They begin their day at 4:30 a.m. selling the special edition newspapers to benefit the hospital and make sure all the details run smoothly for the student groups selling newspapers.

Buchanan High School is closely connected to the hospital and has raised almost $150,000 in the last 16 years through a fashion show fundraiser in addition to their Kids Day efforts. Buchanan is one of the top Kids Day fundraisers in Fresno County.

Raien founded a club at Clovis North called Helping Hearts, which raises awareness and funds for Valley Children’s Hospital. He believes in helping others and has organized many holiday and food drives to benefit the hospital. One of his favorite club drives was when they wrote 50 Christmas cards and delivered stuffed animals to the young patients. Raien believes students may take for granted how fortunate they are and helping the children at the hospital gives him and his classmates a new perspective on life.
