Landeros honored as May Employee of the Month
It is with pleasure that the Fresno County Office of Education honored Maria Landeros, LVN in Health Services, as the May 2016 Employee of the Month.
Maria’s colleagues describe her nursing skills as impeccable. She is a natural leader and teacher who is keenly aware of her students’ needs. During her time as a nurse at the Sutherland Center, Maria was always the first person to volunteer to help a fellow nurse.
“I was always really attached to my student. I called them my kid,” said Maria of her one-on-one nursing responsibilities, including riding the school bus with her student and taking care of a student’s feeding tube, as well as meeting every need the student had to accomplish daily activities.
When time allowed, Maria would look beyond her own students to make sure others in her assigned class were also taken care of. She was available to work at different schools and centers when her assigned students were out for an extended period of time.
Maria was recently moved from the special education setting to the mobile health unit. She now works alongside the mobile health unit’s nurse practitioner and health aid. The team provides much-needed health services to the rural districts in Fresno County.
“We pack up everything we need and the mobile unit is off and going,” said Maria. The mobile health unit contracts with approximately 10 school districts for health services, including physicals and vaccinations.
Maria has brought a new level of organization and medical experience to the mobile health unit. She goes out of her way to reach out to the rural communities so they know that medical care is available to them at school.
“Our department is awesome,” said Maria, who is currently enrolled in the RN program at Fresno City College. “Everyone I work with is on the same page. We’re a great team.”
