Mock Trial Celebrates 30 Years

The trial is over and the verdict is in. On February 16th, Clovis North High defeated Clovis High School to win the 2012 Fresno County Mock Trial. Both Clovis North High and Clovis High are from Clovis Unified School District. The final trial was held at the Ceremonial Room of the Federal Courthouse, with The Honorable Edward Sarkisian, Jr. of the Superior Court, County of Fresno, presiding. Clovis North High School will now advance and compete in the 2012 California Mock Trial finals on March 23 – 25 in Sacramento, California.

Clovis North triumphed over a pool of 12 Fresno County Mock Trial teams in this year’s event. Buchanan High and Coalinga High Schools were the additional teams to advance to the semi-finals. Buchanan High’s John McShea was this year’s winning artist, and the winning journalist was Clovis North’s Kathryn Claybaugh. At the Fresno County Mock Trial banquet, February 28, Jack Ovoian, son of longtime FCOE History/Social Science Coordinator Gary Ovoian, received a special plaque and recognition for his father’s contribution to the success and excellence of Mock Trial.
