October Superintendent’s Superstars shine
Karina and Friends – Karina Cleveland, Gavin Martin, Makenna Garcia, Delilah Ayon and Audrina Ayon -- stared when Karina spent the summer working at her mother’s floral shop, Fowler Floral & Gifts. She was looking for something fun to do and decided it would be great to open a lemonade stand in front of the shop two days a week during summer break. The name Karina and Friends was chosen to include friends to help her run the stand and sell lemonade.
After much consideration, Karina chose to donate the funds raised to a local senior center because she remembered visiting the center and meeting a man who was 104 years old. She also decided to contribute to a new kid’s closet opening at her school. She decided on a fundraising goal of $1,000.
The first stand raised $182. After a few posts on social media, the crowds came and the menu expanded to ice tea and cookies. After four stands, the team raised $1,000. Her goal then expanded to $2,000, which was reached in just three more stands. By the end of the 11 stands, Karina and Friends earned more than $3,200!
The day after the final sale, the kids and parents visited The Fowler Senior Center and presented them with a new TV and provided lunch for the day. The next project is buying the center new blinds, as well as clothing and toiletries for the Kids Closet at Marshall Elementary School in the Fowler Unified School District.
