May 2023 Superintendent’s Superstar
Aisley Chavez, Senior at University High School, is a remarkable individual who has demonstrated exceptional strength, compassion and dedication throughout her high school career. As a senior at University High School, a charter school on the Fresno State campus, Aisley has maintained a 4.08 GPA in its very rigorous AP and College Prep course program.
Despite facing numerous challenges, Aisley has remained resilient, demonstrating her ability to overcome adversity with grace and poise. Over the past four years, Aisley has faced homelessness and instability, often having to make lengthy 40-minutes commutes one way to get to school. However, she has not let these obstacles stand in her way and instead has used them as an opportunity to grow and learn.
Most recently, Aisley faced the devastating loss of her mother to cancer, yet she continued to balance her academic responsibilities with taking care of her younger sister and her family's needs. Her strength and determination during this difficult time have been truly inspiring and a testament to her resilience.
Throughout it all, Aisley has remained genuine, honest and humble, consistently displaying her compassion and concern for others. She is always looking for ways to help those around her and has demonstrated a deep commitment to service and community involvement. This past summer, Aisley took a community college class and her professor approached her and recommended her for a tutoring job at Fresno City College. Aisley has been working as a tutor since then.
It is also notable to mention that she made it to the second stage of the Questbridge Scholars Program and was matched with Stanford and USC. During this time, Aisley’s mother was still in chemotherapy and she decided to drop the applications so she could stay in Fresno to help her mother. Aisley will be attending Fresno State as a pre-nursing major in the Fall of 2023.
