October 2023 Superintendent’s Superstar
Jessica Maldonado, senior at Selma High School, is a vibrant young person with morals and values extending past her years of life experiences. Jessica holds herself to extremely high standards and meets and exceeds her own expectations. She leads by example while also taking the time to be understanding, gentle and kind. Making meaningful connections with her peers, staff and the community is essential to her.
Jessica is the Commanding Officer of the Selma High School Marine Corps Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (MCJROTC) and in her fourth year. She has performed over 175 hours of community service. Jessica has participated in many community service events over the past three years, showing exceptional leadership and managerial skills in different operations and troop welfare levels. She’s handled numerous complex cases calmly and effectively. For example, she has worked annually in various leadership roles providing guidance and direction to lesser-experienced cadets at the annual Selma Band Parade. Demonstrating her ability to work with all grade levels, Jessica has shown patience and maturity as a cabin leader for 6th-grade SUSD campers. She has also volunteered at SUSD elementary school carnivals, Family Literacy Nights and at the snack bar for the Selma Youth Football League.
Jessica is committed to both volunteering in her community and her education. She has challenged herself over her high school career with various honors courses, advanced placement classes and she has been an active career technical education student participating in several pathways.
Jessica’s career goal is to become a civil engineer and military officer while attending Fresno State’s Army ROTC program. She is always respected as a leader for her knowledge, concern, compassion and teamwork.
